Gillian Anderson to Star in Doctor Who
Gillian Anderson is reportedly in talks to join the fifth series of Doctor Who.
According to the Daily Express, Anderson will star as The Rani in Matt Smith’s first series as the Time Lord. Anderson, best known as Dana Scully on The X-Files, currently lives in the UK. She recently starred in The Last King of Scotland, How To Lose Friends & Alienate People, BBC production of Bleak House and she is set to star with former Doctor Christopher Eccleston on stage in A Doll’s House.
The Rani, a renegade Time Lady, first appeared in the 1980’s installment of Doctor Who in a story called Mark of the Rani and returned in Time and the Rani. She was originally played by Kate O’ Mara.
An ‘insider’ told the paper, "The Rani would be a perfect role for her as the character used to be regarded as one of the Doctor’s most deadly opponents.” Adding, "The team behind the show are keen for the next Doctor to have lots of new enemies."
