Heroes Expected to Receive Reduced Order for Season 4

41R4rpHeJSL._SS500_ According to an article by Ad Age, NBC is expected to reduce the number of episodes for Heroes for next season and run them closer together to avoid interruptions to the story line week by week.

The network is considering running 18 to 20 episodes of the series in the 2008-2009 season, which is down from the super-sized 25 they ordered this season. The strategy has been successful for other heavily serialized shows such as ABC’s LOST and Fox’s 24.

In addition to keeping audiences interested, the shortened season also helps the network cut back on spending.

Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli) tells TV Guide that a shortened season would  be "a relief."

"If things start shifting around, they can always add more at the end, but doing 25 episodes this year was nearly 11 months of work," said Pasdar. "We love the work, but in order for the quality to be maintained, you can’t just keep grinding it out.

"The pacing will be a little better — we were sometimes shooting three episodes at once, and there’s no way that something doesn’t slip through the cracks," Pasdar said.  "It just gets crazy."

"This will make it better for everybody, and ultimately for the viewers," he said. "It will be a more streamlined version of a show that’s very complex. It will still maintain its complexity, but I think it will be easier to follow."

What do you think about a shorter season?
